10.10.2007 - Karavan Saray
II
Caravan Sarai or
traveller’s inns were rest places along the road from
Morocco to India and China. These were crossroads where
travelers, storytellers, philosophers, mystics,
musicians, merchants came together as ambassadors of
various cultures and within the sanctuary of these
places for rest, they exchanged not only goods but also
ideas thus spreading knowledge and contributing to
better understanding and acceptance of diversity,
becoming instrumental to the evolution of science, arts,
consciousness and spirit.
This musical event was
conceived as a meeting of free improvisation (taksim)
which rests upon the musical traditions which grew along
the path which leads from Hindustani Classical Music,
Iran, through the Ottoman Empire, Arabia, the
Mediterranean and the Balkans.
